Nearly 1 Million Trump Memecoin Investors Lose $3.81 Billion as $TRUMP Token Crashes 97%

Nearly one million investors who purchased U.S. President Donald Trump’s official memecoin have collectively lost an estimated $3.81 billion by the end of June, according to a report cited by The New York Times and based on data from cryptocurrency analytics firm Nansen.

The report highlights the dramatic decline of the $TRUMP token, which has fallen more than 97% from its all-time high, wiping out billions of dollars in investor value while generating substantial income for businesses linked to the U.S. president.

Investors Face Heavy Losses

Launched on the Solana blockchain on January 17, 2025, just three days before President Trump’s second inauguration, the token was marketed as the “official Trump meme coin.”

The cryptocurrency quickly attracted widespread attention after being promoted on Trump’s social media platforms, including Truth Social and X (formerly Twitter).

Strong investor demand pushed the token’s price to a peak of $75.35, giving it a fully diluted market valuation of more than $75 billion.

However, the rally proved short-lived.

As of the end of June, the token was trading at around $1.76, representing a decline of more than 97% from its record high.

According to Nansen’s analysis, nearly one million investors who bought the token have suffered combined losses totaling approximately $3.81 billion.

Trump Reportedly Earned $636 Million From the Token

While many investors experienced steep losses, President Trump’s latest annual financial disclosure filed with the U.S. Office of Government Ethics paints a different picture.

The filing reportedly shows that Trump received approximately $636 million in royalties and transaction fees linked to the $TRUMP token.

The cryptocurrency income formed part of at least $2.2 billion generated from his various business ventures during 2025, according to the disclosure.

Revenue Generated From Trading Activity

Unlike many cryptocurrency investors who depend on rising prices to make profits, the report notes that businesses connected to the token earned revenue through transaction fees and royalties whenever the cryptocurrency changed hands.

This means income continued to flow from trading activity regardless of whether the token’s market price increased or declined.

Analysts say this business model allowed the project to generate significant revenue even as the token lost most of its market value.

Meme Coins Remain Highly Volatile

The sharp rise and subsequent collapse of the $TRUMP token once again highlight the extreme volatility associated with meme cryptocurrencies.

Unlike digital assets backed by business operations or cash flows, meme coins are largely driven by online communities, social media trends, celebrity endorsements, and investor sentiment.

While they can experience rapid price increases, they are also known for steep declines that can leave late investors with substantial losses.
